How to embed YouTube videos in PowerPoint

The main reasons why you would want to embed a YouTube video in your presentation would be that, you want to make the presentation interesting or, maybe the video explains the topic better or, the video plays a major role in your presentation. By default, PowerPoint does not support the adding of YouTube videos directly. So, today we are going to learn how to embed the videos in your PowerPoint presentation.

There are 2 most commonly used methods to embed YouTube videos in your presentation.
  1. Directly put the YouTube player in your PowerPoint slide
  2. Download and put the video in your PowerPoint slide.
So, let us have a look at each of this one by one.

Directly Putting the YouTube player in your PowerPoint slide

This method is suitable only if you know that the place where you are going to present will have a good and fast internet connection. This is required because the YouTube video is not stored on your computer. If you think that a good internet connection will not be available at the presentation site, then you should prefer to use option 2.
As we earlier said, PowerPoint does not support embedding you tube videos directly into your presentation. So, how do we do this? Well, there are plugins that you can install to get this functionality added.
Download and install the YouTube Wizard plug-in and it will add a new “Insert YouTube Video” command to your PowerPoint Toolbar. After installing, all you have to do is click on "YouTube Video" option in the "Insert" tab in Microsoft PowerPoint. Then you just put the URL of the YouTube video in the wizard and it will add the player to your slide. You can adjust the size of the player just the way you adjust other elements like images and charts.

Download and put the video in the PowerPoint slide

This should be the first option if you do not have a stable internet connection at the presentation site.
First of all, you will need to download the video that you want to embed in your presentation.
Microsoft PowerPoint only supports AVI or WMV video file formats. As we all know, YouTube videos usually come in mp4 or FLV file formats. So, to insert this downloaded videos, you will need to convert the video to AVI or WMV. You can do this by using a software like Any Video Converter.
After converting the video, go to MS PowerPoint, in the "Insert" tab, click on Movie, then Movie from file, and browse and select the converted file to put the video in the current slide.
